Calculator inputs

Calculations run in your browser. We do not require an account or ask for your location. We do not send your calculator inputs to EIA.

Settings on your device

The fuel cost calculator uses browser local storage to remember your distance, fuel economy, units and cost-sharing settings. The estimated-price option is selected by default on a new visit. Custom prices are not saved in local storage. You can remove these settings by clearing this site’s browser data.

Shared links

When you choose to share a trip, the link includes calculator values in its URL. Anyone with that link can view those values, and the URL may appear in server logs. Shared links using an estimated price use the latest available estimate when opened.

Server logs

The hosting provider may record technical access information such as IP address, requested URL and browser details for site operation and security.

External sources and links

We retrieve public price data from EIA on our server. Following an external link takes you to a website with its own privacy policy.

Analytics and advertising

This version does not load third-party analytics or advertising scripts. This policy will be updated if those services are added.
