Driving in France
How to calculate fuel costs in France
Enter your road distance in kilometers, your vehicle’s fuel consumption in liters per 100 kilometers and the fuel price in euros per liter. L/100 km describes how much fuel the vehicle uses to cover 100 km. A lower value means lower consumption.
For example, a 500-km trip at 7 L/100 km needs 35 liters. At an illustrative price of €1.80 per liter, fuel costs €63. A round trip costs €126, or €42 per person if three people share. This example price is not a live station quote.
L/100 km or km/L?
L/100 km is the default for this country. If you know your car’s economy in kilometers per liter, choose km/L instead. For example, 7 L/100 km is approximately 14.29 km/L. The calculator converts the value when you change units.
Petrol and diesel
The estimated petrol price refers to Euro-super 95, while the diesel price refers to automotive diesel. If your vehicle needs another grade or you know the pump price, enter your own price. Use consumption that reflects the vehicle you will drive.
Planning a road trip in France
Fuel is only one part of a travel budget. Keep motorway tolls, parking and other expenses separate from this estimate. Use the road distance from your map service, and a station price when you know it rather than treating the national average as a price for every station.
