How to calculate fuel costs in Germany

Enter your road distance in kilometers, your vehicle’s fuel consumption in liters per 100 kilometers and the fuel price in euros per liter. L/100 km describes how much fuel the vehicle uses to cover 100 km. A lower value means lower consumption.

Fuel cost = distance in km ÷ 100 × L/100 km × EUR/liter

For example, a 500-km trip at 7 L/100 km needs 35 liters. At an illustrative price of €1.80 per liter, fuel costs €63. A round trip costs €126, or €42 per person if three people share. This example price is not a live station quote.

L/100 km or km/L?

L/100 km is the default for this country. If you know your car’s economy in kilometers per liter, choose km/L instead. For example, 7 L/100 km is approximately 14.29 km/L. The calculator converts the value when you change units.

Petrol and diesel

The estimated petrol price refers to Euro-super 95, while the diesel price refers to automotive diesel. If your vehicle needs another grade or you know the pump price, enter your own price. Use consumption that reflects the vehicle you will drive.

Planning a drive in Germany

Fuel economy can change with driving speed, traffic, weather and load. Use a consumption figure that reflects your planned driving, especially for longer motorway journeys. The national weekly reference is useful for a budget, but an individual station’s price may differ.

Germany fuel cost FAQ

Which units should I use?

The defaults are kilometers, L/100 km and euros per liter. You can also use km/L or US/UK MPG. Swedish mil is a Swedish unit and is not the standard distance unit for Germany.

Is the estimated price updated every day?

Our scheduled importer checks for new data daily, but the source publishes weekly observations. The observation date is displayed. You can enter your own station price at any time.

Can I calculate diesel costs?

Yes. Select Diesel and enter your vehicle’s fuel consumption. The estimated price changes to the country’s weekly automotive diesel reference.

Can I share the cost of a return trip?

Yes. Enter the one-way distance, select Round trip and enter the number of people sharing. The estimate doubles the distance and divides the fuel cost equally.

Does the calculator include tolls and parking?

No. The result covers fuel only. Add parking, tolls and other expenses separately.
