About Fuel Cost App
Simple tools to understand fuel consumption and plan the cost of a trip.
What we calculate
The fuel cost calculator estimates fuel needed from your driving distance and fuel economy, then multiplies it by the price. The gas mileage calculator measures fuel economy from distance driven and fuel used.
Estimated US fuel prices
Our source is the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Update. We use the US weekly average retail price of regular gasoline and on-highway diesel, including taxes, in US dollars per US gallon.
The price date is the observation date supplied by EIA. We check for new data daily when the scheduled importer is running. The underlying figures are weekly, not daily or live station prices.
National averages can differ from your local price. Enter your own price when you know it. Data more than 14 days old is marked as older; estimates more than 30 days old are disabled until new data is available.
Units and conversions
One mile equals 1.609344 kilometers. One US gallon equals 3.785411784 liters. One imperial (UK) gallon equals 4.54609 liters. All prices in this initial US version are in USD. Changing the volume unit converts the price per unit; it does not exchange currencies.
Scope of the estimate
The result covers fuel only. It excludes tolls, parking, depreciation, insurance and maintenance. Actual consumption can change with traffic, weather, terrain, vehicle condition and driving style.
